Eyebrows: Decrypted Microblading and Microshading Techniques

Makeup holds a great place in the world, no matter what our style. To help us in this constant search for beauty, new and innovative techniques are born regularly. These include processes to reconstruct and/or magnify our eyebrow line. You should know that eyebrows are the base of the look : a well-drawn and clean line guarantees a pretty make-up. Thus, we wanted to talk to you in this article about the existing ways to find beautiful eyebrows: the techniques of microblading and decrypted microshading is in the continuation of this post!

What is microblading?

Called micropigmentation or microblading, it is a permanent make-up technique for creating the eyebrow line and filling any holes. Originally from Asia, this process has gained ground by establishing itself all over the world and especially in France in recent years. Color pigments are implanted in the eyebrows to give them a fuller look, redraw them and balance them.

How does it work?

Similar to a tattoo, eyebrow hairs are artificially recreated with pigments implanted in the skin with a needle and a metal scalpel. Small striations are created to penetrate the pigments under the epidermis. A first session of an average of one hour is necessary as well as a touch-up a few weeks later after a partial healing of the implanted areas. It is only after these two steps that the microblading is perfectly realized.

Microblading can frighten by its process and it is indeed common to feel some discomfort during the work of the specialized beautician. Depending on the person, a simple tingling can occur. Anyway, microblading doesn’t hurt. In addition, and if you are particularly comfortable, some institutes will advise you to apply an anesthetic ointment before the application.

Keep in mind that although the procedure may be similar to that performed during tattooing, microblading is not. A tattoo is indeed permanent and definitive by definition. This sparse eyebrow reconstruction process is temporary and allows natural skin regeneration.

Microblading results

First of all, let’s talk about the price: a microblading eyebrow restructuring lasts over time and therefore has a significant cost. Depending on the beauty salons, their expertise and notoriety, these rates can fluctuate from 150 to 600 €. The results of the microblading are at the level of the expectations of the clients: the pigments posed are similar to real hairs laid in a light and natural way. Microblading is considered to last between 8 and 12 months before fading. However, the best institutes use organic pigments known to keep the same colour over time.

What is microshading?

Like microblading, microshading is a semi-permanent eyebrow makeup technique. Finer, this process makes it possible to obtain a clean and uniform eyebrow line while giving a real «hair to hair» effect. Microshading is part of a more discreet approach to correcting defects that can occur in the eyebrows (excessive hair removal with tweezers, aging, etc.). This technique makes it possible to correct any shortcomings discreetly. In addition, microshading adapts to all skin types.

How does it work?

The microshading technique also involves the implantation of dye pigments in the eyebrows. However, they are implanted as points in the contour and hairless areas using an electric pen. The closer the beautician draws, the thicker and darker the eyebrow line will appear. It takes about two hours for a successful first session. However, the treated areas will darken over time, so it will take a month to decide whether a touch-up is necessary or not.

Microshading results

The microshading results are very natural : there is a very uniform shading effect as would be the case with discreet pencil or eyebrow gel makeup. This makes sparse areas more discreet and gives the impression of a perfectly drawn eyebrow line. This very fine pigmentation appears, as powdered, and allows to intensify the look. In addition, it seems that microshading ages better over time: no retouching after a few months and no effect too marked.
